San Gabriel Valley Chapter
Monrovia, CA

Advancing Productivity, Innovation, and Competitive Success

Who We Are

APICS, “The Association for Operations Management”, is the global leader and premier source of the body of knowledge in operations management, including production, inventory, supply chain, materials management, purchasing, and logistics since 1957. Its membership of nearly 60,000 professionals is divided into 14 regions throughout North America. San Gabriel Valley Chapter belongs to Region 7 - a region which is encompassing 15 chapters located in Arizona, Central and Southern California, Southern Nevada and the Northwestern part of Mexico.

San Gabriel Valley Chapter (SGVC) of APICS represents the members and customers residing and/or working within the cities and localities of the San Gabriel valley in southern California. A not-for-profit educational organization formed for its educational offerings and services since 1988, the chapter is made of professionals who are ambitious about their professional career enhancement and want to gain a competitive advantage to improve their on-the-job performance.

The governance of the chapter falls into the hands of the board members. Board members consist of consultants, industry practitioners, and academia, who are elected bi-annually from the chapter membership. The board members hold their meetings every third Monday of the month at the local hotel, while Professional Development Meetings (PDM) or general membership meetings are conducted (third Wednesday) once in every two months. Currently, the meetings are held at Four Points Hotel in Monrovia, California.

APICS’s member benefits are designed to building stronger and timelier techniques to help members maintain their edge. The SGVC offers regular certification programs and other educational services throughout the year. The certification programs open the door to job opportunities and member’s career advancement. According to a recent APICS Salary Survey, respondents with CPIM or CIRM credentials earned 15 to 23 percent more than non-certified professionals. In addition, more Internet-savvy manufacturing companies are demanding APICS certification on applicant resumes. On Monster.com, more than 61 percent of manufacturing jobs request APICS certification. Hence, a premier provider of individual and organizational education, SGVC of APICS is here working diligently to meet the needs of the interested membership and the industry.

Other Great Ways to Benefit from APICS

If you are a member of APICS or a regular visitor to our web site, then you know the great ways you can further your knowledge, stay abreast of cutting edge topics and network in the profession offered by the San Gabriel Valley Chapter.

Further and deepen your knowledge by taking our CPIM courses. Learn more about these at our Education page

You can keep up with the latest trends and tools as well as meet your peers at our profession development meetings. Learn more about these at our PDM Page

But, there are even more ways you can get value out of APICS. APICS has recently formed a set of Learning communities.

APICS Learning Communities are online forums where members can come together regularly to share and develop ideas, practices, and solutions in the field of operations management. APICS Learning Communities provide a communications tool to enhance knowledge sharing among APICS members to strengthen individuals in their work and the association as a whole.

Members: To access your new member benefit, simply log in or go to www.apics.org/communities.

Non-Members: You can visit the APICS public community to stay up-to-date on APICS offerings.

You can explore the APICS Learning Communities using these online tools:

Discussions: Join in a current topic or start a new discussion.
Resources: Search for resources or submit materials for posting.
Links: Find and share links to relevant materials.
Events: List community events and discussions.
Polls: Gather community opinions about a subject.
Chat: Communicate in real time with your peers.

There are two Learning Communities you can join:

Lean
Connects professionals who are dedicated to the sharing and application of lean enterprise tools, techniques, and standard practices.

Project-Oriented Operations
Connects professionals from project-driven enterprises and those in government agencies who provide project oversight and may also manage resources across the operation. Day-to-day responsibilities might include production of highly engineered products with low volume, deep bills of material, and long lead times. The operations are usually proposed, contracted for, designed, and costed individually.

So if you want to get even more value out of APICS, in addition to taking classes from our excellent instructors and joining others from the San Gabriel Valley to hear the latest and greatest, I high recommend you look into the APICS Learning Communities.
